Way of the Long Death
Some monks do not fear the end — they study it. Practitioners of the Way of the Long Death dwell on the boundary between life and its cessation, learning to read the fragile thread of vitality in every living creature. Where others see death as an enemy, these monks see it as the most honest of teachers.
Through years of contemplation and practice, they attune themselves to the ki that flickers within the dying, the wounded, and the afraid. This attunement grants them power drawn not from destruction, but from proximity to the threshold itself.
Those who walk this path are often somber and deliberate, moving through the world with an awareness of mortality that unsettles others. Yet they are not cruel — they simply understand, more clearly than most, how close every living thing stands to the long ending.

Subclass Features
Touch of the Long Death
3rd-level Way of the Long Death feature
When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with an unarmed strike, you draw a measure of that creature's departing vitality into yourself. You gain temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier plus your monk level. These temporary hit points last until you finish a short or long rest.
Mastery of the Threshold
6th-level Way of the Long Death feature
You can sense the life remaining within a creature by touch. You can spend 1 ki point to touch a creature and learn exactly how many hit points it has remaining.
In addition, you can spend 2 ki points to touch a willing or incapacitated creature and force its body to the very edge of survival. The target drops to 1 hit point. This feature has no effect on constructs or undead.
Ethereal Step
11th-level Way of the Long Death feature
At the start of your turn, you can spend 1 ki point to step partially into the Ethereal Plane. This requires no action. Until the start of your next turn, you have resistance to all damage as your form becomes partially insubstantial.
Touch of the Long Reaper
17th-level Way of the Long Death feature
Your mastery of the threshold becomes a weapon in its own right. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 3 ki points to force that creature to confront its own ending. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your ki save DC or immediately drop to 0 hit points.
This feature has no effect on constructs or on creatures that have legendary resistances. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
