Scout

Not every rogue plies their trade in candlelit taverns and shadowed city streets. Some find their element in the wilderness — reading tracks in the mud, navigating by starlight, moving through dense forest without snapping a single twig. Scouts are the eyes and ears of any expedition, equally adept at urban infiltration and deep wilderness survival, and they have learned to make the terrain itself a weapon.

A Scout's edge comes not from elaborate schemes but from positioning. They are perpetually aware of sight lines and escape routes, of where the light falls and where it does not. In combat they fight like running water, never letting an enemy pin them down, always finding the angle that grants advantage. Their enemies often report the frustrating experience of swinging at empty air.

Many Scouts came up as hunters, outriders, or military skirmishers before discovering that their skills translated just as well to the rogue's trade. Others developed their wilderness expertise as a necessity — they had to survive somewhere, and the deep forest asked fewer questions than the city watch.

Subclass Features

Skirmisher

3rd-level Scout feature

You are difficult to pin down in a fight. When a creature ends its turn within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to move up to half your speed. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.

Survivalist

3rd-level Scout feature

Your time in the wild has made you a seasoned expert. You gain proficiency in the Nature and Survival skills. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make using Survival.

Superior Mobility

9th-level Scout feature

Your constant movement across all manner of terrain has conditioned your body for speed. Your walking speed increases by 10 feet. You also gain a climbing speed and a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.

Ambush Master

13th-level Scout feature

You have a gift for striking first and fast, and your opening blow sets the tempo for the entire fight. You have advantage on initiative rolls.

Additionally, the first creature you hit each combat is left momentarily vulnerable to the entire party. Until the start of your next turn, your allies have advantage on attack rolls against that creature.

Sudden Strike

17th-level Scout feature

You have trained yourself to chain attacks with frightening speed. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one additional attack as part of that action.

This additional attack can benefit from your Sneak Attack feature even if you have already used Sneak Attack this turn. However, you cannot use Sneak Attack twice against the same target in the same turn.
